2022 was officially declared as the United Nations International Year of Glass to celebrate the essential role of glass in our society.

This was made possible through the joint application of the International Commission on Glass (ICG), the Community of Glass Associations (CGA), and ICOM-Glass that was formally approved on May 18, 2021.
